Nocturnes

Night painting is a great challenge. As the light fades, the cones in your eyes become dormant and useless, and your rods take over, affecting your perception of color, values, and form. There are complicated logistics involved in providing your own light source that is sufficient for painting, and finding a location well lit enough to allow for painting, yet dark enough to evoke the atmosphere of a nocturne requires a great deal of visualization while scouting during the day. Below are some of the nocturnes I have painted.
