The Alternative Minimum Workout is an idea that was taught to me by Rick Faye and I believe was started by Larry Hartsell, a very well known instructor in the JKD/Kali community. The goal of this workout is to have a way to get in a set amount of exercise no matter what the conditions are. It is ideally suited for those who travel, as it does not take up a great deal of space, and requires no equipment.
The Alternative Minimum Workout
In any order, broken apart however you choose:
100 Push-ups
100 V-ups (Abdominal Exercise)
100 Squats
Done correctly, this takes less than 20 minutes. There are also ways to spice up the exercises to vary them and make the workout more challenging. This might include:
- Decline Push-ups
- Alternate Abdominal Exercise
- Single Leg Lunges instead of Squats
- Wearing a weighted Backpack for Push-ups and Squats, holding it at arms length for the V-ups
- Handstand Push-ups
- Diamond Push-ups
- Clapping Push-ups
- Doing 2 sets instead of just 1
